Operations

When connecting to an external data source using BCS, you can create a series of operations against the list. Operations are the methods available when interacting with the data sources and the External List. They include

• Read Item

• Read List Item

• New Create Item

• New Update

• New Delete

By using these operations you have access to all Create, Read, Update and Delete (CRUD) operations. At a minimum you need to create a Read Item and Read List Item to create an External List in SharePoint. In the following example you create all the available operations that enable you to create new items, update existing items, and delete items in the external system.
