Summary

In this chapter you learned how you can use the BCS to connect to external LOB systems in your organization. Using SharePoint Designer you can now easily create connections to these systems that enable you to provision External Lists for users to consume this data in the browser. From here they cannot only read items, they can also create, update, and delete existing items using SharePoint lists and their associated forms to interact with the data.

After you have created the ECTs you can use SharePoint search to assist users when trying to find information in these LOB systems. Creating profile pages enables you to customize the search results returned to users and present them in a friendly interface.
