Configuring a Database Connection

The following example walks through configuring a database connection to the AdventureWorksDW2008 database. It also demonstrates a common issue that can happen when SharePoint Designer incorrectly recognizes the database schema and subsequent queries against the database fail and discusses use of Custom SQL Statements to overcome this issue.

Note

The following example uses the AdventureWorksDW2008 database, but you can also use the AdventureWorksDW database.

To create a new database connection, use the following steps.

1. Click the Data Sources tab in the left-hand navigation pane.

2. Click Data Connection in the New group in the ribbon.
