Authenticating and Troubleshooting Data Sources
The most important design consideration when working with external data in SharePoint 2010, especially when connecting to data in an SQL database, is which authentication method you should employ to connect to the designated data source. This also largely depends on what type of authentication provider is being used within your organization and by your SharePoint server, such as NTLM or Kerberos. Authentication is detailed in each of the data sources discussed in this chapter. However, you should also be alert to some of the general considerations around authentication when planning and considering working with data sources in SharePoint Designer.
