What Does CSS Do?
Basically, CSS is a language responsible for the look and feel of web pages formatted in HTML or XHTML, including (but not limited to) the following:
• Color definition
• Font type
• Font size
• Appearance of images—opacity and borders
• Positioning and alignment of elements
• Padding and spacing
The main benefit of using CSS is that you can use style sheets to easily separate page styles from a page’s HTML markup. You can reference style sheets externally, internally, or inline. For example, a common (and preferred) way to reference CSS in modern day websites is to use a relative link in the site’s master page (or template) to reference a CSS file located external to the current web page.
