Editing Modes: Normal and Advanced Modes

In addition to controlling access to SharePoint Designer editing features using Web application and site collection SharePoint Designer Settings, editing modes have been added to the suite of SharePoint Designer 2010 editing features to avoid unintentional page customization. Normal mode (also referred to as safe mode) is the default editing mode when you open Wiki and Web part pages for editing in SharePoint Designer and limits the user to editing the content regions on the page.
