Including Site Content When Saving Sites as Templates

As part of saving sites as templates, you can also choose to save the existing site content, such as documents and list items, as part of the template. Saving the site content is a way to back up a site or move a site in its entirety to another location. Be aware, however, that templates do not save existing security or permissions, including users, groups, or permission settings on lists or libraries. Therefore, sites created from a content-populated site template expose content irrespective of permissions on the source.
