Connecting Web Parts

Connectable Web parts were originally introduced in SharePoint 2003. Back then, people questioned the benefits of using connectable Web parts in SharePoint sites. As the user interface has matured, though, connected Web parts have gained popularity and are now used in a number of different scenarios, such as table of contents, additional filtering for large sets of data, and passing parameters between different Web parts to selectively display certain data.
