New to Microsoft SharePoint 2013, remote event receivers allow you to connect external software and apps to your SharePoint solutions. Through a remote event receiver, you can link to SharePoint any external software that’s capable of providing services based on a specific and predefined SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol) service contract. You should not, however, consider remote event receivers as alternatives to Business Connectivity Services (BCS).
