Understanding Site Collection Options
It is important for the farm administrator to be conversant with the different site collection templates available and to understand when it is appropriate to create a site collection and when a site will suffice. The range of site collection templates available in the different versions of SharePoint 2010 is provided in Chapter 18, “SharePoint Foundation Versus SharePoint Server 2010,” and summarized in Table 18.5 in that chapter.
