The following are best practices from this chapter:

• Keep an eye on SQL Server performance and storage using the vast range of available monitoring tools.

• Use the SQL Server Management Studio Log File Viewer to monitor both SQL Server and Windows event logs. It is highly recommended to look through the logs on a daily basis to detect any existing or possible issues.

• Use the SQL Server Maintenance Plan Wizard to set up SQL maintenance plans.

• Do not to include the option to shrink the database when creating SQL Server maintenance plans; this should be run manually only if the content database has lost at least half of its content.
