7.9. Strategy Map Design

Strategy maps are perhaps the most unique part of PerformancePoint. They provide a hierarchical view of the Key Performance Indicator measures across levels of the organization that is similar to the familiar "org-chart" display of data. This org-chart representation of performance metrics seems to make sense to decision makers that deal with their organizational structures every day.

The other valuable use of strategy maps with PerformancePoint is to group KPIs into areas of concern for the organization. Thus we might find gross revenue and units sold (2 KPIs) grouped under "Financial Performance."
