Chapter 13. Building Charts

The cliché that “a picture is worth a thousand words,” is often literally true, and in the world of Excel, a chart is often worth a thousand cells. It’s not easy to gain meaning from rows and columns of data, but a well-designed chart can make your data understandable in a glance. When it comes to the details, nothing beats the set of numbers, but charts offer a great way to let people quickly grasp the relationship between numbers on your worksheet and help them spot trends. Just by the way, some people call them “charts,” some call them “graphs,” but they are the same things. Excel calls them charts, so that’s what I’m doing, too.
