Working with Data Tables

You can add a data table to a chart by selecting the chart, choosing Chart, Chart Options, clicking the Data Table tab, and selecting Show Data Table. The resulting data table shows the numbers from which the chart was derived and is particularly useful when the chart is located on a separate chart sheet.

Unfortunately, you can't move or format the data table. You can create a more flexible equivalent to the Data Table option as follows:

  1. Copy the source data for the chart.

  2. Select the chart.

  3. Hold down the Shift key and choose Edit, Paste Picture. (The Paste Picture command does not appear on the Edit menu unless you hold down the Shift key.)

  4. Size and position the picture of the source data.

  5. In the formula bar, type a reference ...
