Working with Server Filters

You should already be familiar with using filters in forms from working through the earlier forms chapters in this book. In addition to regular filters, Access projects also include the ability to apply server filters. Server filters function similarly to regular filters except they are applied before the recordset is retrieved from the server and sent to the form. When you apply regular filters in forms, Access first fetches the recordset from the server and then applies the filter on your client machine to limit the rows actually displayed in the form. Applying filters on the server side is advantageous because it reduces the load on the server and it cuts down on network traffic.
