  • Various efforts are underway to have .NET Framework available on other platforms. Key to these initiatives include the Microsoft Shared Source CLI, also known as Rotor, which provides a shared source model for researchers, Ximian's Mono Project, and DotGNU's Portable .NET initiative. Even though initial deliverables of some of these initiatives are available, a considerable amount of time is left before production quality applications can be developed and deployed on other platforms.
