This chapter has shown you how to write some simple XML Web services that can connect a smart device application to the enterprise (and therefore to the central or enterprise databases). It has shown how the support in Visual Studio .NET for the XML Web service infrastructure helps programming of a client application using the .NET Compact Framework. This chapter has covered techniques for using both simple return values and datasets with XML Web services, and also for using the support available for asynchronous processing.
