Securing SQL Server CE Connectivity

If you are using RDA or replication to transfer data from a back-end SQL Server to SQL Server CE on the device (as described in Chapter 17), connectivity is managed by IIS. Data that transfers between the client and the server are compressed for efficiency, but are not encrypted. If you use these techniques from devices that connect via the Internet, you should consider setting up IIS to use SSL, as described in the section "Using SSL" earlier in this chapter.

RDA and replication do not require the use of SSL, but you should use it in the following circumstances:
