Media Bypass

Media Bypass is discussed more in depth later in this chapter, but whether it is used with a particular gateway is configured at the trunk level. It’s important to review whether the media gateway will support Media Bypass and then ensure that the rest of the Lync network configuration has enabled Media Bypass to function.

When beginning to plan for trunks, use the following tips:

• Identify the necessary trunk translation manipulations required by each gateway.

• Plan the logical trunk layout including port numbers and IP addresses or names in advance of configuration.

• Decide whether SIP and media encryption between Lync and the media gateways is required for each trunk.
