Encryption

Another decision point in the planning process will be to determine whether the SIP connection and media between the Lync servers and gateway will be encrypted on a particular trunk. If so, the gateways or peer IP PBXs will require certificates trusted by the Lync servers with subject names matching the gateway. This is the preferred approach because it maintains the security of the voice solution, but it can be difficult to manage and troubleshoot encryption issues on some media gateways or IP PBXs. In SIP trunking scenarios it’s possible that the provider might not even support encryption.
