Reverse Proxy Load Balancing

Each reverse proxy product will handle this differently, but planning for redundancy will usually involve using multiple reverse proxy servers and load balancing the services. TMG and UAG allowed for Windows Network Load Balancing, which, although a really poor solution, was leveraged by many organizations because it was free. Depending on the product, a software form of load balancing might be provided, or a hardware load balancer can be used with the reverse proxy to distribute requests to multiple servers. The only port required for load balancing the reverse proxy is TCP 443, but organizations might also want to load balance TCP 80 and redirect that traffic automatically to TCP 443 instead.
