SR-IOV
With SR-IOV, the control and management of a physical network adapter can be assigned directly to a virtual machine. This reduces I/O overhead and increases performance. SR-IOV is recommended.
VMware includes a feature called VMDirectPath, which gives a virtual machine direct access to the physical adapters.
