Guest Virtual Machine Operating System Requirements
Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows Server 2012 are both supported as the guest operating system for Lync Server 2013 guests. It is strongly recommended to have Windows Server 2012 as the guest operating system, because it has several performance benefits for a virtualized environment.
As with a physical host server, the Lync virtual machines should not run any additional applications or services, because these can impact performance. Any antivirus applications should be configured to exclude the location of any Lync Server 2013 binary files, database files and the Lync service executables.
