Summary

There is little doubt that virtualized deployments will continue to be popular with Lync Server 2013. However, it is important to remember that Lync Server is dealing with real-time traffic and some intense workloads and should be carefully architected to ensure good performance. It should also be remembered that just because virtualization is currently popular, and supported by Lync Server 2013, does not automatically mean it is the correct deployment model. Requirements such as dedicated logical processors and network adapters are not typical in virtual environments, so companies might find themselves having to deploy new hardware specifically for Lync Server 2013 even in a virtual deployment.
