These products also don’t work seamlessly without VPN like the Lync client. Consider a basic scenario in which a remote Lync user signs in without VPN, but then has to manually establish the VPN connection before placing an audio or video call. It is technically possible to implement the system this way, but user adoption typically suffers and the response to the deployment will probably not be favorable.
