PSTN Usages
The PSTN usage object in Lync Server often seems confusing because it has no settings or configuration options other than a name. There are no user options or policies configured on a usage and it cannot even be created by itself. PSTN usages can be considered the glue between a voice policy and a route in Lync.
PSTN usages are usually named based on a particular type of call and a destination, or an egress point. For example, a usage called US-CA-SFO-National might be used to identify national calls leaving through a gateway in the San Francisco, California, office. Another example could be a usage called US-IL-CHI-Local, which identifies calls considered local to a gateway in the Chicago, Illinois, office.
