Standard Edition

The Standard Edition of Lync Server provides a relatively easy way to deploy telephony features into a network. Its relatively low cost of entry is based on the fact that it’s meant to run everything on a single server with the potential for adding an edge server if one needs to support external connectivity.

Standard Edition utilizes a local SQL express database to store information and it isn’t eligible for any of the high-availability functions offered by Enterprise Edition.
