Option 2: Fault-Tolerant File Replication

If each server hosts content, use file replication to keep the multiple storage systems synchronized. Likewise, content in a remote content storage system can use Distributed File System (DFS) to achieve a measure of fault tolerance.

If DFS is used, the availability of the data is increased, because DFS can redirect requests to another copy of the share if the targeted location is offline. It is important to note, however, that although DFS is supported on a server cluster (see Option 3 below), Distributed File System Replication (DFS-R) is not.
