Option 1: Local Storage

With this option, configuration or content data is stored locally on the same machine as IIS 7.0. A local disk or a storage area network (SAN) can provide the disk storage. Using local storage provides the following advantages for both configuration and content:

  • Availability. Locally stored data does not depend upon the availability of the remote file share. Thus, if one server’s data goes down, the entire IIS 7.0 instance is not taken offline. However, the risk of locally stored content becoming corrupted may warrant a standby server or other backup configuration.

  • Performance. Because the network is eliminated as a potential bottleneck, locally stored data generally sees improved performance over content stored remotely. ...
