Preparing Active Directory for Exchange

Out of the box, Active Directory knows nothing about Exchange, so you have to prepare Active Directory to support the deployment of your Exchange organization. Running any setup operation that updates Active Directory can only be executed on a server that has the Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS) feature installed. To install this feature on a server running Windows Server 2012, start Windows PowerShell and type the command:

Install-WindowsFeature RSAT-ADDS
