Chapter 14. Managing Message Transfer and Routing Within the Organization

Every Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 administrator should have a solid understanding of message transfer and message routing. The X.400 message transfer agent handles message transfer, both within the organization and to servers outside it—unless you configure a different connector. The Message Transfer Agent (MTA) provides the necessary addressing and routing information for sending messages from one server to another; it’s the functional equivalent of the Microsoft Exchange Message Transfer Agent used in previous versions of Exchange Server.
