Alignment

Excel offers a wide variety of options to set the way characters are positioned within a cell (Figure 13):

  • Text Alignment options position the text within the cell.

    • Horizontal positions the text between the left and right sides of the cell or selection.

    • Vertical positions the text between the top and bottom of the cell.

    • Indent determines the amount of space between the cell contents and the left side of the cell.

  • Orientation options control the angle at which text appears within the cell.

  • Text Control options control how text appears within the cell:

    • Wrap text allows word wrap between the cell's left and right sides. (This may increase the height of the cell's row.)

    • Shrink to fit reduces the size of characters to fit within the cell.
