The goal of this chapter is to equip you with the knowledge and resources needed to successfully administer Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 on a daily basis. Because of the many components that make up the infrastructure of Dynamics CRM — as well as the many possible deployment scenarios — the primary focus will be on familiarizing you with the tools at your disposal, providing references and links to external resources that will help you to maintain, optimize, and troubleshoot the system.

Throughout this book and this chapter, when speaking of the individuals responsible for maintaining Dynamics CRM, we frequently refer to them as administrators. We use the term administrator in a general sense, realizing that in some organizations one person may be responsible for all of the "administrative" functions, while in a large enterprise environment, there may be teams of specialized IT professionals with more narrowly defined responsibilities.
