Web Services Fundamentals

Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2013 uses the now common service-oriented architecture (SOA) concept for extensibility, which implements a series of web services to provide extensibility support. By using these web services, we can integrate other applications and systems with Microsoft CRM and extend its capabilities.

Web services are based on Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP) messages. This protocol uses Extended Markup Language (XML), which provides usability through Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) communication transports.

In simple terms, this gives applications and systems an easy way to communicate using standard protocols to interoperate and share functionalities.
