Data Encryption Option

Separate from SQL Transparent Data Encryption (TDE) (available only On-Premise), Microsoft offers a Data Encryption option for both Online and On-Premise. (On-Premise requires a secure [HTTPS/SSL] connection to configure the encryption key.) Figure 2.20 shows the Data Encryption option found in Settings > Data Management.

Tip

Once activated, data encryption cannot be turned off.

The encryption is designed to protect the Yammer token and a set of default entity attributes that contain sensitive information (usernames and email passwords).
