Volume Shadow Service (VSS) Support (On-Premise Only)
To increase high availability and add functionality for backup and restore purposes, a new role has been added to Dynamics CRM 2013 server that extends functionality for the Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) framework.
When enabled, the backup and restoration of the configuration database (and any of the organization databases) need not be done offline. (However, any connected database, such as SharePoint and Reporting Services, must have its own VSS writer connected.)
