AX has its own data integration module called the Application Integration Framework (AIF) that uses XML documents as a data layer when transporting data. This book does not cover the AIF, as it could probably fill a book on its own. It does, however, cover the same generic base classes that the AIF is based upon, so it can be a good idea to read this part even if you will be using the AIF.

The use of XML files to transport data between systems is increasing rapidly. As you read in the beginning of this chapter, the transport channels used to carry the files are not covered in this chapter.
