At this point, we have a very well-developed real-world solution built according to the best practices with some of the latest technologies. But the fact of the matter is that many data interactions in our industry still involve batches or flat file formats, such as EDI and HL7, or custom formats that have been in operational use for a very long time. This legacy of computing is not going away any time soon, and despite the rise of services and SOAP, we will be required to work with flat files and batches for a very long time.
