Understanding Recordsets

The Recordset object is the most commonly used ADO object. It allows you to access a query’s resultset. A Recordset object is based on a Connection object, or at least one connection string. First, we introduce the different recordset types supported by ADO.

The term cursor is used in the database environment to describe what points to a record. In the literature, cursor is often used in the sense of a data set. There can be significant differences in how the system administers the records to which a cursor points. ADO uses four cursor types, which are described in the following sections.
