XML support is one of the new features of SQL Server 2000 (and Microsoft Data Engine [MSDE] 2000). The supported XML functions include the following:
The option to access SQL Server queries and procedures using Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) with a uniform resource locator (URL). The system returns the results in XML.
The option to read and generate XML data with commands such as OPENXML.
Support of XML Data Reduced (XDR), a proprietary Microsoft XML schema standard environment (also known as XSD). W3C has recommended XML schema since May 2001.
