SQL Functions

SQL Server/MSDE recognizes a large number of functions that you can use to calculate column values. Tables 9-2 through 9-10 give an overview of the functions you can use.

Note

Access Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) functions cannot be used in SQL queries (that is, in views, stored procedures, forms, reports, and when programming with VBA). This applies to the integrated VBA functions as well as those you create yourself. SQL Server/MSDE recognizes an equivalent function for most Access VBA functions. With Microsoft SQL Server 2000, you can also define user-defined functions (UDFs) on the server. Otherwise, you can determine Access VBA function results and pass these to a stored procedure using parameters.
