The Access 2010 Navigation Pane

The Navigation Pane was originally introduced in the Access 2007 release as a replacement to the database window in prior versions. The Navigation Pane is the feature that allows database users to view and open the objects of a database, such as tables, queries, forms, reports, macros, and VBA code modules. The Navigation Pane is the panel on the left side of the Access program window. The Access 2010 Navigation Pane has features that help organize these objects into generic groups, as well as provide the ability to customize and build different views for the database application user. The Navigation Pane can also be hidden from the users. In custom applications, preventing users from seeing or using the Navigation Pane is considered standard practice, and this is discussed more in Lesson 59. This lesson is dedicated to discussing the basic features that the Access 2010 Navigation Pane provides as well as providing a step-by-step example of how to work with the Navigation Pane and the objects it contains. Learning how to effectively use the Navigation Pane's features can greatly increase the robustness of any Access database application.
