Whenever we interact with a group in a meeting, or with an individual, we walk in carrying our own fixed ideas and filters. It’s our baggage, and on these trips you can’t go empty-handed. You might be carrying a small under-the-seat tote, or, when you encounter a different group, you may drag along a steamer trunk. Pick your metaphor. Call it baggage, rose-colored versus dark-gray glasses, or some other visualization. All of us have a tendency to reach conclusions based more on our preconceptions than the facts of the encounter itself.
