Information about events is another one of the more common types of web content. It’s everywhere. People publish details about their events to share information, encourage attendance, and even prompt users to save the event specifics to their calendars.

And the hCalendar microformat was developed for just such content. Concerts, parties, and conferences, oh my!

What Is hCalendar?

hCalendar is a formal microformat used to mark up content about events. Specifically, the type of event information you would find on a calendar, such as the following:

• Name/summary

• Location

• Start and end dates and times

• Longer description (than summary)

• Type of event
