8.1 Important Differential Equations

In this section we will look at some very important differential equations that we often come across in practical physics and fluid mechanics. We will not derive each equation here. For this, the interested reader is referred to textbooks that discuss the underlying physics to the differential equations. However, several of these equations will be treated throughout this book and will therefore be derived. Wherever possible the equations will be briefly introduced and then given in a standard form using f denoting the actual function to solve, c as the constants, and the independent variables x, y, and t.
