10.3. THE FIVE MOMENTS OF NEED

There are five moments of need that learners pass through that require support in order for learners to successfully perform (see Figure 1) (Gottfredson, 2003).

The training industry has primarily focused their practices on the first two moments of need:

  1. When people are learning how to do something for the first time.

  2. When people are expanding the breadth and depth of what they have learned.
