7.2. TECHNOLOGY AS A WORKBENCH FOR THE KNOWLEDGE SOCIETY
A workbench has two main components: a platform on which to work and tools that can be used on that platform. For a workbench to be used in practice, it must also be accessible to the potential user, meet his or her needs and capabilities, and offer affordances that the user can capitalize on to achieve or even surpass the desired result. A workbench comes to reflect the personal style of its user not only in the tools involved, but also in the look and feel of the work setting.
