Too often, e-learning paradigms attempt to emulate existing instructional models rather than capitalize on the unique strengths contemporary technologies afford. Such efforts tend to carry forward unfortunate weaknesses and even compound them because limitations imposed by previous technologies are carried forward. Simultaneously, when designing for the new technology, often designers fail to take full advantage of new design possibilities, some of which can lead to powerful learning experiences.
