Following Einstein's notion that everything should be made as simple as possible but not simpler, I've been working for several decades now on simplifying instructional design. I think we've made it too complicated and too formal, at least for application by and guidance for the typical designer. With the work of the contributors to this series of annuals and many others, we're making unmistakable progress; but the progress is to be found only if one looks carefully for it and possesses the patience needed to piece together a whole from many parts.
