Why should we be leery of what Ruth Clark tells us? After all, she's a past president of the International Society for Performance Improvement, and well published First, she is the proponent of a single, unproven, theorette, Cognitive Load Theory, which she promotes as truth about how the brain works. Sorry, but Cognitive Load Theory is only a hypothesis, that is, an educated guess. Second, her language is sloppy, and is not the language of science. For example, she speaks of "countless" studies pointing to a conclusion. Sorry, but in science each needs to be counted and evaluated. My guess is that many, if not most, of these studies, like the bulk of studies in the social sciences in general, are not worth the paper they are printed ...
